When I was in Miami in 2005 not everything was perfect and well maintained. A lot was, but I wonder what has happened to Evelyn in the past five years?
Poor, neglected building... it has a tragic look about it :(
But look at the two pastels colours. The taste for pastels seemed to have been a Miami patent, one that would have looked fine in the building's glory days.
This looks like it might be the building and if so it's being converted to condos http://www.real-estate-investment-alliance.com/miami-beach/the-evelyn.html
MELBOURNE ART DECO
In 2009 Robin Grow published a book on Melbourne Art Deco, with images largely supplied by David Thompson. The book quickly sold out and he is pleased to say that it has now been re-published by Brolga Press, with updates, errors corrected and a new cover.
Best of all, it is selling for about $25 in the shops and on-line. Art Deco & Modernism Society members can purchase a copy from me for $22, (includes postage within Australia). For overseas orders please email for postage rates. Contact me at robingrow@ozemail.com.au if you are interested, and advise if you would like the book to be dedicated and/or signed.

Tragic but lots of potential.
ReplyDeleteA shame to see sych buildings in a sad state - there's a job for you David to buy and do it up!:) Did you see inside?
ReplyDeleteI hope someone has beaten me to it and it is lovely and whole again.
ReplyDeleteI didn't look inside, in fact, I've only just realised that it would have been very easy the way the window on the left is only barely boarded up.

ReplyDeleteLooks like it could be ... I hope so.
