This article in The Argus from 16 August 1940 reports that Williams and Co sold both corners of Mona Place and Punt Road for 'subdivision in seven blocks suitable for sale'. Presumably, one of those blocks on the southern corner became Mona Court, a 'U' shaped block of flats.
Each of the flats on the Punt Road arm of the 'U' have small brick balconies but interestingly there are no balconies on the other side.

My uncle bought/leased (not sure which) one of these flats from around that time. He was born in 1914 and was a radio and stage actor. It was a popular location for actors and lavish parties were held in and around the area especially after the war, once rationing was over.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. Thanks for the extra info.
ReplyDeleteI like these flats as I reckon they show more influences from bauhaus style and are "transitional" if you like because these flats are an early example in my opinion of what was to come with many post war style buildings and they they appeared.
ReplyDeleteThomas, thanks for your comment. I always enjoy what you have to say because you have a much finer eye than I have for the sub-genres within the Modernists architectural styles.
