The Albion Hotel, in Dean Street, Albury was designed in 1941 by Frederick Morsby. It has been modified since then, particularly at street level, and the scaffolding on the roof indicates that this pub is still undergoing change. The Albion was one of the buildings spotlighted during the Albury - Delightfully Deco exhibition programme and I think it looked pretty in pink.

I love the concrete balconies and the typeface is really interesting as well.
ReplyDeleteWithout knowing what was original and what is a more recent modification, it looks like the red brick and the glass parts sit slightly uncomfortably alongside the concrete rendering.
ReplyDeleteI love the porthole windows and the long vertical strip of windows that go up the stair well.
The balconies and the portholes make it for me.
ReplyDeleteHels, according to the ADMS Albury Interwar Walk booklet the façade was altered in 1956 and had mosaic tiles which were subsequently replaced by the rendered finish.
