This is the Griffith District Ambulance Station and I haven't been able to find out too much about it. If you read yesterday's post you'll see the similarity with the Ambulance Station in nearby Leeton.
Perhaps both buildings were designed by the same architect, S J O'Halloran of Wagga Wagga, or maybe the same contractor, C Churchill of Newcastle, was involved in both projects. It could be neither. Perhaps there was a bit of the fence left over from the Griffith job and they gave it to Leeton so they could use it for their gates.

There has to be a connection between the previous gate and the fence in this post. Can't say I've ever seen a fence like it.
ReplyDeleteHow far apart are Leeton and Griffith in ks? And how far apart were the two buildings put up, in years?
ReplyDeleteWhenever I see rural patterns emerging like this, I always imagine some public servant in the capital city sending copies of the "approved architectural plan" to the regional centres. They locals could still make changes, but at least they didn't have to pay for a fancy architect. The expensive design work had already been fully completed.
I agree Andrew but I wonder exactly what that connection is.
ReplyDeleteHelen, I don't know when the Griffith Ambulance Station was built but Leeton is about 50km from Griffith, in rural NSW next door neighbours.
What you say makes sense. Many organisations with multiple locations had their own architects or contracted to use the same architects. Since each location required the same basic facilities, existing plans could be adopted to fit the specific local needs with less expense than engaging a fresh architect for each project.
Thanks Thomas
