Cloverhill Apartments, Toronto

This is Cloverhill Apartments in Toronto built in 1939 and designed by John Gibb Morton.

The green awning at the entrance is a later, unsympathetic, addition. Older photos should a more elegant entrance canopy with slender metal letters spelling out the name of the apartments as late as the 1990s.

    The awning is hideous and why feature it in green? Otherwise, it is a particularly nice entrance.

    Deco architects often built the stair well next to the front wall and made it entirely glass encased. This allowed natural light into the stair well AND looked good from the front lawn.

      I reckon the function of requiring light for the stairwell led to the design feature.
