A Shanghai Villa
A bonus from our impromptu walk with Shanghai Art Deco was getting behind the high wall and just as high gate to see this Shanghai villa. It's now used as offices and is a bit unloved but the bare bones are there and it could be fabulous again.
This is the view of the front of the villa from the private garden but the entrance on the side of the building next to the driveway is fabulous.I love this door. The closer you look the better it gets and check out the terrazzo star in the circular entrance hall.

Mission Australia, Goulburn
There is something very appealing, I think, about the Mission Australia building in Goulburn. I wonder what it was before Mission Australia moved in.

Freemasons Hospital, East Melbourne
I love the Miami feel of this photo but it is actually the stairs at the side of the Freemasons Hospital in East Melbourne. The hospital was designed by Stephenson & Meldrum and built by J R & E Seccull in 1936-37 for the United Grand Lodge of Victoria.

40 English Street, Essendon Airport
Love at this great building at 40 English Street, Essendon Airport in Melbourne. Four boxes put together to form a single building. A flagpole. Cut-out windows flanking the impressive entrance. A very pleasing aspect, I think.

SF Merchandise Mart, San Francisco
I took these photos of the SF Merchandise Mart at 1335 Market Street, San Francisco a few years ago so you can still see the SF Mart signage at the far end of the façade but this 1939 Art Deco building has a new tenant. The building has undergone extension restoration under the supervision of Komorous-Towey Architects and last year Twitter moved in.You can see some more recent photos at US Nation Trust for Historic Preservation blog, PreservationNation.
