Estádio da Gávea, Flamengo

This is the Estádio José Bastos Padilha, nominally the home of the Flamengo Football Club, also known as the Estádio da Gávea. Flamengo play their home matches at the much larger Estádio do Maracanã leaving the 1938 Estádio da Gávea as their training ground.

Casa Monteiro de Carvalho, Santa Teresa

On Wednesday I showed you the dining room and winter garden at the Casa Monteiro de Carvalho in Santa Teresa. So today I wanted to show you the spectacular Lalique table that greets visitors through the front entrance.

This is the sala de jantar (dining room) in the casa Monteiro de Carvalho, a house of extraordinary Deco treasures at Santa Teresa near Rio de Janeiro.

Take a look at the light over the dining table. Probably Lalique, a lot of the lights in the house were.

At the end of the room behind a wrought iron screen by Edgar Brandt, the master French iron worker of the Deco period, is the jardim de inverno (winter garden).

With lots of great Deco furniture and fantastic leadlight windows.

Edifício Ribeiro Moreira, Copacabana

There are some fabulous apartment blocks in Copacabana. This is Edifício Ribeiro Moreira built in 1928.

Edíficio Itaoca, Copacabana

Copacabana has a lot of deco apartment buildings and this is one is quite special. Edíficio Itaoca dates from 1928 and was designed by architects Anton Floderer and Robert Prentice.

The decoration includes indigenous Brazilian motifs marking Itaoca as one of the best examples of Art Deco Carioca or Rio Art deco.

The main entrance is stunning, surrounded as it is with green tiles.

I love it.

An interesting little building on Praia do Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro.

Staircase, Urca

If you've been paying attention you will remember I posted some photos of an amazing bathroom in a house in the Rio suburb of Urca. I also posted some pics of the front door with figures of a hunter and a gazelle incorporated into the metal work. This is the staircase that greets you once you get inside that front door.

This large apartment block is on Avenida Atlântica facing Copacabana beach. Not a bad place to live.

This amazing doorway is at a house in the Rio suburb of Urca. I showed you the bathroom in this house previously.

Edificio Leme, Leme

It would appear that the enclosed, curved balcony at the top of this apartment building is the only distinguishing feature that could be described as Art Deco but at ground level there is something that blows it out of the water.

Edifício Paysandú, Flamengo

This is the foyer area of the Edifício Paysandú, an apartment building in Flamengo. As you can see it is another beautifully maintained building in Rio.

A Bathroom in Rio

During our time in Rio we were lucky to visit a fabulous Art Deco house on the suburb of Urca. This is the bathroom.

Mulher com Amfora, Rio de Janeiro

Humberto Cozzo's statue, 'Mulher com Amfora' (Woman with Amphora), in Praça Quinze de Novembro in central Rio de Janeiro dates from 1934.

Edifício Ceará, Copacabana

Another rather plain Copacabana apartment building except for how the name of the building, Edifício Ceará, has been worked into the façade. Unfortunately the trees in Avenida Nossa Senhora de Copacabana have grown to obscure the 'o' in 'edifício' but it is still very impressive.
