A House in Woodville
It seems to me that this is a typical New Zealand Art Deco house. You seem them all over the place. This one is in Woodville on the North Island and is perhaps more decorated than a lot of others. Although it does look like they ran out of paint (motivation) to finish the speed line on the curved section of the house.

The colour is overwhelming and it takes away from the bold, geometric architecture in the front of the house. The blue decoration would stand out much more clearly and dramatically on white or cream walls.
ReplyDeleteGosh I love Deco :)
I don't like the colour scheme all that much either Helen but I saw a few houses with this burnt ochre colour so perhaps it is a New Zealand thing.
ReplyDeleteI think the interruption on the speed lines accentuates the deco feel. But it would look better still against a white background.
ReplyDeleteInteresting way to look at it Jack. I can see it but I also would prefer white, or at least a light coloured, background.
