69 Newbury St in Back Bay, Boston was remodelled in the 1920s by Strickland, Blodget and Law for the brokerage firm Kidder Peabody which is why you'll find a bear and a bull worked into the façade.Reference:

Lovely! I love Boston and visit at least once a year -I will take a closer look at this one on my next visit
ReplyDeleteThere's a few buildings in the same block or two that have been remodelled in the 1920s & 30s.
DeleteI assumed bear and bull were recent terms. Seems not.
ReplyDeleteI don't know the origin of the terms either but they seem to go back to at least the 1920s.
DeleteThere is nothing quite as contrasting about 1920s and 30s Deco as when it sits next to something of a different era RIGHT next door. The neo-Gothic church could not be more different.
