    The house and gardens are looking a bit tragic now, but they must have once been very smart and modern.

      For sure Helen. The garden and landscaping was often an important aspect of the Deco 'package'. Even the ones that still look smart have 'suffered' because the plants have grown so much in the 70, 80 and 90 years since they were planted. For example, pencil pines were sometimes used to flank the doorway but now they tend to be so tall that they overwhelm it.
