I con't know what is going on with this apartment building on the corner of Franklin Street & Broadway in Pacific Heights. I suspect something has been added to the roof of the original building but perhaps it was designed that way.
One thing for certain though, it has the most amazing decoration around the entrance.

1790 Jackson, Pacific Heights
The Pacific Heights area of San Francisco is packed with Art Deco apartments like this on at 1790 Jackson Street.
It was designed in 1940 by Herman C Baumann and demonstrates the quality and areas of decoration of many of the residential buildings in these streets. The main decoration is along the roofline with a usually more ornate entrance at street level.Reference:

1770 Pacific Avenue, Pacific Heights
I thought this was a very interesting building when I took these pictures earlier this year in San Francisco. The building is a mish-mash of styles. The roofline doesn't match the Art Deco panels below the windows. So I was pleased to see in the brief notes I had made from Deco by the Bay by Michael F Crowe that the building dates from 1902 and was remodelled in 1930.Reference:

Flats, Pacific Heights
This is a block of modernist flats in Clay Street, Pacific Heights, San Francisco. I really like the way the building climbs up the hill with the lowest section set furthest back from the street.
Many of the elements of Art Deco and Moderne buildings are part of this buildng. The 'blconies'with metal railings. Glass bricks providing privacy at ground level yet allowing light to reach the interior spaces. And, although not visible in the photo, the porthole windows in the garage doors.
These flats date from 1938.

1950 Clay, Pacific Heights
These Art Deco apartments at 1950 Clay, Pacific Heights are spectacular and they are many others that are similar around the area.
They tend to follow the same general style. Fantastic decoration along the parapet and below the windows and very grand, decorated entrances.
They even have decoartion on the garages as can be seen in the foreground of this photo. These apartments were designed by Herman C Baumann and built in 1930.Reference:
