Penfold Australia Ltd, North MelbournePenfold Australia Ltd occupy this Art Deco building onthe corner of Elizabeth and Arden Sts in North Melbourne.

The main part of the facade has limited decoration consisting of incised lines defining the horizontal sweep of the windows at ground level and the second story. There is simple banding around the doorway and around the top of the building where a repeated plaques providing the majority of the building's decorative interest.

J Pringle Automotive, North Melbourne

J Pringle Automotive, North MelbourneI had lunch with a friend in North Melbourne today. North Melbourne being a old part of Melbourne was established well before the deco period but in between the Victorian houses, shops and warehouses and the modern builds and conversions there are a number of nice interwar buildings.

I spotted J Pringle Automotive from my trusty/rusty bicycle and had to stop to take a picture of two.

Factory, North Melbourne

Factory, North MelbourneThe best thing about crusing around the city on my pushbike is that it is easy to explore streets and dead-ends that you don't normally get to in the car.

I found this factory or warehouse beside a railway line in North Melbourne. The use of the contrasting colours in the layers of bricks drew my attention but I really liked the way the bricks interlock on the corners.

Royal Park Hotel, North Melbourne

Royal Park Hotel, North MelbourneI like this building, the Royal Park Hotel in North Melbourne.

The speedlines are really chunky and look like they are plasticine snakes stuck on the front of the building. They wrap around the the barrel of the vertical decorative elements adding to the impression they were added at a later time.

I like that the building is not square. The Howard St frontage is longer than the Queensberry St frontage.

I like the three lines at the apex of the roofline on the corner. I assume there was originally a door at street level on this corner and I'm surprised the isn't even a window there now.

I even like the mish-mash of wires, tv aerial and telegraph pole. I guess I have to like them because they are all over my picture and that is what this corner actually looks like.

I don't like the colours but they are transient and perhaps the next paint job will be better.
