Aaron Bolot designed this large block of flats at 17 Wylde St, Potts Point. It was constructed between 1948 and 1951 and shows the style of modernism that was appearing in Sydney architecture in the early post-WWII years.
The majestic curve of the facade is interrupted by two large blocks of balconies although most have now been enclosed by glass perviding more living space but changing the architect's original vision of the building.

Great Building, and good to see some post war buildings on your blog. Maybe you could extend the art deco reference and also have modernism?
ReplyDeleteThanks Thomas. I'll keep doing what I'm doing and when I slip into Modernism I might cop a bit of flak but that's OK. At least it will be about a discussion about a great building and who cares what the style is called.
ReplyDeleteThe funny thing is that art deco is a period of Modernism:) Keep up the good work, always enjoy your posts.
