Tarcutta is halfway between Sydney and Melbourne. It used to be on the main road but now the Hume Highway by-passes the town. Since Tarcutta is worth a short detour to see the Australian Truck Drivers' Memorial, the Art Deco Horse & Jockey Hotel and the Modernist RSL & Citizens Club.
The club, as well as providing a bowling green, squash court and poker machines, also includes that wonderful quaint Australian tradition of a family restaurant serving Australian & Chinese meals.
In Melbourne Art Deco, Robin Grow, President of the Art Deco & Modernism Society, examines the rise, fall and resurgence of Art Deco in Melbourne from the 1930s to the present day. With contemporary images by David Thompson and a team of photographers, supported by archival material, Melbourne Art Deco offers an invaluable insight into history and current state of one of the city's most popular styles.
