Manhole Cover, Napier
a deco one from Napier

Manhole Cover, Wellington
and a more modern one (2005) from Wellington

  1. David, you are such an astute observer of the beauty around us. Thanks for this post. I am going to look more closely at manhole covers now!

    1. Thanks Susan. I'd love to take the credit but it is a friend of mine, Michael, who is always taking photos of manhole covers so I've picked up the habit, of at least looking at them, from him.

  2. They are great. Japan also has wonderful man hole covers. There are a couple at the end of this post. http://highriser.blogspot.com.au/2010/07/japan-day-2-2106-pt-1.html

    1. Very nice Andrew. Makes me wonder why we can't have more art on such functional items.

    1. Nice. There a couple of electricity boxes (i think) in Port Melbourne that have been painted. One in Bridge St near corner of Lalor St and another in Liardet St near the Neighbourhood House.
