Found this fantastic little middle school in Auburn, NY. There are two decorative panels, one on each side of the set of three windows in the left section of the building, depicting cogs, a lathe, hammer, a plane, a trowell and a measuring tape. Perhaps the building was originally a trade school.
An amazing blog! I recommend you to visit some south american capital, like Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Santiago, there's pretty much art deco around there!
ReplyDeleteSaludos!
Great artwork embedded in the building.

Thanks for the comments Agustin & J Bar.
ReplyDeleteI know that South America is a big hole in my art deco travel. I've only seen glimpses but I know there is lots of fantastic deco architecture there. Anyway I hope to fill that hole, at least partially, next year.
Obrigado!
Aha! lol
ReplyDeleteIf you want to look around...

ReplyDeleteI know guys. The more I learn the more I need to see.
ReplyDeleteim from auburn and due to state aid cuts this building has been closed. Before it was a middle school it was West High School.
ReplyDeleteThat's a shame, thanks for the info anyway.
DeleteI would have gone to this school this year if it didn't close. I now go to East Middle School, but since West closed East is now called Auburn Junior High School, or AJHS for short. And no I don't think it was ever a trade school. It started as a high school.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear the school has been closed. Do you know what is going to happen to the building?
DeleteSorry it took so long to answer, but I think they were going to turn it into a police academy, but decided against it. Now it just sits empty and lifeless. But every once and a while you do see lights on inside
DeleteHopefully the lights are a good sign!
DeleteI graduated from West High School in 1968. It was built in 1940, and was originally designed to teach trades. (2 other high schools in Auburn originally taught business or college entrance courses.) West High was the only one with auto shop, print shop and metal shop - so the designs in the panels make sense.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the additional details about this great school building.
