Presidio Theatre, Marina

Presidio Theatre, Marina

The Presidio Theatre in Chestnut St, Marina in San Francisco is a great little Art Deco suburban theatre.

Dating from 1937, it was designed by John H Ahnden.

  1. Great theatre and it looks as if it is in excellent condition. I wonder if there was a blade out the front, originally.

  2. Good question Helen. There is a link to a photo from around the 1960s on cinematreasures.org that doesn't show a blade but that doesn't mean there wasn't one earlier.

  3. The art deco era brought a lot of interesting design elements not only to the exterior of buildings but also the interior.

  4. For sure Mary. I didn't get the chance to go inside this cinema but there are lots of examples of fantastic interiors that still survive.

Patrica Bayer's book Art Deco Interiors explores the subject.
