This is the former service station of Balmain Bros Bega Ltd in Bega on the south coast of New South Wales. As you can see it is now, in part, occupied by Betta Electrical. The company dates back to 1909 when brothers, Arthur & Billy Balmain establish a motor service carrying mail & passengers from Bega to Tathra and also to Cooma. In 1935 they erected this workshop in Auckland Street, Bega with the round tower built as a masthead for the company pennant.

You know, I might drive past that building and not notice it but your second photo really caught my eye! It is a great capture that perfectly captures the timeless style of the building!
ReplyDeleteThanks Emm. Actually, if you drive through Bega you could miss this lovely building because as you cross the intersection of Auckland & Carp Sts you would most probably be looking at the wonderful Grand Hotel rather than Balmain Bros down the side street.
DeleteHa ha, I was just saying I would have noticed the Grand Hotel!
DeleteThe Grand is hard to miss :-)
DeleteYes, an amazing building to check out in Bega, the round tower is large to the rest of the building, yet it still works well in terms of design.
ReplyDeleteYes the portions work well.
DeleteHi David I own an Art Deco house built by a local family in Bega.
ReplyDeleteIt has a very country feel to the outside but the inside is complete with beautiful deco ceiling moulds, picture rail hangers and wood panneling.
If you are interested in some pictures then just comment here and I will send you my emil.
Cheers Sarah.
It sounds like an interesting house Sarah, I am intrigued
