ReplyDeleteBut I am always surprised when universities and other large institutions had a lot of money to spend at the very time when the nation was still reeling from WW2 poverty and loss of young men. Rationing was still in place!
I agree Helen. It is astounding that this was built just two years after the war finished. I've been looking at some records for Australia and it was well into the 50s by the time major projects were undertaken in some of the larger cities.
