Okura Garden Hotel, Shanghai

The Okura Garden Hotel grew from the old French Club in Shanghai. It has some lovely interior deco features.

    1. It was in great condition. If it is all original then it is a marvel and if it has been restored then it is fabulous.

  2. Great photos, David. One of relatively few Art Deco spots in Shanghai that's in really good condition.

    1. Thanks Randy. I think some of the hotels look the best. The Peace Hotel and Grosvenor House are the immediate examples I can bring to mind.

  3. I became very interested in Deco architecture in Shanghai when a friend started taking inter-war walking tours of his old home town. Now I have cited your posts in a review of Veysseyre's work that will appear this coming Tuesday.

Thanks for the link. I hope people look at your photos of Okura Garden Hotel and the other Shanghai sites.

    1. Thanks Helen,
Architecturally, Shanghai is an amazing city. Although disappearing there are still some traditional Shanghai Shikumen residential blocks. Then there are the 19th & 20th century buildings from the time of the international settlements and now there is the ultra-modern skyscrapers of Pudong across the Huangpu River.
