A House in Poowong

A House in Poowong

I really liked the view of this house in Poowong. It had a bit of a deco feel to it and then I noticed the low brick wall.

Edificio Kavanagh, Buenos Aires

Edificio Kavanagh, Buenos Aires

This is a somewhat deceptive view of Edifcio Kavanagh in Buenos Aires and not just because it appears to be surrounded by trees. This view shows the top of the building so you don't get a sense of the bulk of the building. This is a very large building.

Edificio Kavanagh, Buenos Aires

This view shows some of that bulk but in a a way overstates it.

Edificio Kavanagh, Buenos Aires

As you can see here, the building is very narrow near the top while the lower floors are actually in the shape of a 'V' with a car park and service area in the back.

Edificio Kavanagh, Buenos Aires

Edificio Kavanagh is rightly the most well-known Art Deco building in Buenos Aires. It was designed by architects, Sanchez, Lagos and de la Torre and was built 1934-36.

Gowings Buildings, Bega

Gowings Building, Bega

I love the simple lines of Gowings Buildings in Bega dating from 1951. I wonder if it was designed before the war?

Shops, Yenda

Shop, Yenda

Yenda is a small village in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA) of New South Wales but it packs a punch as far as deco is concerned. Unfortunately, too many of the commercial buildings are vacant like this pair of shops.

Two Houses in Leongatha

House I, Leongatha

The last time I was in Leongatha, I found these two houses.

House II, Leongatha

The one on the corner is a big grander than the other one but they have similar features.

Grand Theatre, Shanghai

This is the Grand Theatre in Nanking Road in Shanghai. It was opened in 1933 and designed by Ladislaus Hudec who seems to have had a hand is a lot of Shanghai's deco buildings.
