This extraordinary shopfront is in the Bridge Mall in Ballarat. According to a history of the Davis family by Dr Trevor Batrouney this store was established in 1920 and it is great to see it still going strongly 90 years later.
I don't know if there is any relationship with the Davis's Buildings that I posted yesterday. Dr Batrouney's article mentions another Davis store in Bridge Mall but not one in Sturt St. I wouldn't be surprised. The Davis family appear to have been a large part of the Ballarat business scene for the past century.

We spent the weekend in Ballarat, enjoying the hospitality of the city for Heritage Week. What a great city! The architecture, domestic and otherwise, is to die for.
ReplyDeleteI love Art Deco and was lucky enough to grow up somewhere like Seattle where there are some fabulous 20's and 30's buildings to admire. And I'm happy to discover your blog here, dedicated solely to Art Deco buildings. Very nice posts you've got here; looking forward to more.
ReplyDeleteAll the best,

ReplyDeleteWalter Davis is for lease via www.titheridge.com.au.
Thanks Ann. I hope the new tenants understand what a beauty they are renting and make the most of its history and deco features.
