Interior, Niagara Cafe, Gundagai
If you are making the long drive between Melbourne and Sydney along the Hume Highway then you really need to take a break at Gundagai. Perhaps a burger and a milkshake at the family-run Niagara Cafe while you admire the original deco interior.

I think we et there in early 1980s. It had juke box machines at each table.
ReplyDeleteCould be Andrew. It was such a lovely day, we ate at the tables outside so I didn't notice if there were jukeboxes inside or not.
DeleteThe Niagara Cafe in Gundagai looks to me as if the Deco decorative programme was original, but do you know the dates? Sometimes a building is re-renovated back to 1930s taste.
ReplyDeleteI don't know the exact dates but as this site indicates the cafe hasn't changed at least since Prime Minister Curtain visited in 1942.
DeleteI remember visiting there in 1997 en route to Canberra. There was a sign commemorating the 50th anniversary of Curtin visiting Gundagai in 1942 still up!
ReplyDeleteIt does seem to be one of their 'claims to fame' Steph.
DeleteThat is so cool!
ReplyDeleteYou should visit one day Pat ;-)
