128 Millswyn Street, South Yarra

128 Millswyn Street, South YarraThis apartment block on the corner of Millswyn Street and Domain Road, South Yarra was constructed in 1941 and designed by architects Seabrooke & Fildes. Sadly it has recently been demolished to allow the development of more modern apartments.

My favourite aspect of this building is the circular glass section on the corner and the narrow horizontal bands of windows providing light to the stairwell. The curved ends to those windows adding an extra design element.

  1. Ahhhh!
What a shame that it's gone!
It's about time they made it mandatory all new developments must reuse the current structure so as to minimise the carbon footprint, to retain the heritage and history of the area.

  3. Sonia, me too.

Jayne, that is a wonderful thought and imagine the challenge to competent architects to work creatively with existing buildings rather than copping out and starting with a blank page.
