  3. This is sad. :( Does Melbourne not have a landmark preservation commission? If not, they should now. NYC's famous Beax Arts masterpiece Penn Station's demolition created NY's LPC.

  4. We do have Heritage Victoria that list buildings at a State level but they didn't consider Lonsdale House was of State significance. It was 'protected' by being part of a City of Melbourne heritage area but the City Council did not fight for it when the State planning Minister, Justin Madden, excluded it from that protection to allow for the demolition.

  5. I wonder if anyone was able to salvage the wonderful features such as the 'Lonsdale House' typeface and the turret? Or did thy all just go in the bin?
